LaRue Ultimate AR-15 Upper Kit

For all you quality conscious AR15 do-it-yourselfers, this upper kit is the absolute pinnacle of Ultra-Precision.

For you wannabe quality conscious AR15 do-it-yourselfers, this kit will be awesome to cut your AR assembly teeth on.

Three weeks ago we offered a run of a marvelous, complete 6.5 Grendel rifles based off these same upper components - and it sold very well. But many calls came in saying "take my money - sell me the parts!!". Okay, we listened, for a limited time, you can now get the satisfaction of putting together the finest upper build kit ever offered on the planet Earth, and at a smokin' price, pick from 3 great calibers.

Be undaunted  - our rifle techs are standing by the phones to answer any and all of your questions - 512-259-1585

I had the good sense to send one of those 6.5 Grendels to an author of the 6.5 Grendel Reloading manual, the last word on reloading the 6.5 ... here's what he had to say about the complete rifle that's based on this upper kit ...

*******************************************************************

"There are many little details about the LaRue Stealth 2.0 that I have been noticing as I dig around this rifle.

If it were just a billet AR with a nice receiver set and quality barrel, you probably wouldn't see me posting much about it. Silence would be more telling than signal.

Everything is Top Dead Center and aligned, starting from the detent on the buttplate of the RAT stock (which removes to expose the cleaning kit sleeves), all the way to the ports on the Tranquillo brake.

The handguard rail aligns perfectly with the upper rail, which I've not ever seen on forged receiver builds even with the best after-market handguards out there.

Aluminum billet receivers and handguard were anodized before being Cerakoted FDE, and the color match across the furniture and aluminum is very uniform.

I haven't spent this much time pawing over an AR in many years, and am truly appreciative of the thought and workmanship that went into this rifle from the perspective of someone who has studied this industry since childhood.

There is a lengthy list of features based on improved functionality like the gas tube ferrule (gizmo), the MBT-2S trigger, along with an extreme passion for fit between all the parts, with intelligent design woven into the components. The flats on the Tranquillo brake are nice, and the supplied wrench doubles as a barrel nut and brake wrench with jaws for both on it. I really like this rifle."

What’s in the box:
LaRue Stealth 2.0 Upper Receiver (M4 feedramps) with forward assist and dust cover installed
LaRue Stealth 2.0 Handguard with Barrel Nut and Barrel Nut Wrench
Mil-spec Charging Handle
Mil-spec Bolt Carrier Group

Purchased the 5.56 kit with stealth 2.0 14.5 in barrel and with the tranquilo brake(pin and welded). Put it on a Stag lower that I had fit was tighter the the Stag upper Just came back from the range. Tranquilo brake works as well if not better than others I have recoil seemed reduced barrel didnt rise as much of a rest. Had an old cheap 4X scope on it tried 55gr 69gr and 77gr .223 factory ammo (reman from freedom munitions) only had access to the 50yd range liked 69 gr best had a 5 shot group just under an inch so I am sure with a good scople and the right ammo it would shoot a lot better. I am happy with the purchase. They threw in anothe bottle of dillodust (I have enough now to season a whole cow) couple more Dillo's tha I now give out as gifts along with a couple of pocket constitutions And another paint bucket cover :-) Order only took a couple of weeks Color me a happy camper

LaRue Tactical has never disappointed me and this is no exception. Their attention to detail is incredible. I did come across a couple hiccups in the building process that I want share. I already have five AR platform rifles/pistols that have the Magpul B.A.D. Lever and it is something I have gotten use to but it B.A.D. Lever is incompatible with the LaRue billet upper. After searching the web for a compatible bolt catch extend I could not find any reference to one that would work with a LaRue upper. I finally thought I would order the Phase 5 Extended Bolt Release V2 (EBRV2) and I'm happy to report it works great. The second obstacle was the LaRue Tactical A-PEG grip would not fully seat on the Areo Precision lower. I tried and tried. Tried it on some Spike's Tactical lowers still would not seat. A quick search on the web and I found that it was not uncommon and after ten minutes of Dremel work it seated perfectly. And just as others have stated the grip is worth the minor inconvenience. Neither of these issues were a big deal I just wanted to share my experiences so that other might not get tripped up. Besides it made me step out of the box and trip the Phase 5 Extended Bolt Release V2 (EBRV2) which it a very nice piece also.

As usual the quality is where it always is....I literally assembled the upper...swapped the 2.5x10 Nightforce from my 20" Stealth onto this upper and ripped off numerous sub moa groups at 100yds. Right outta the box...nuff said... All I need now is an FDE Larue Lower to complete the picture...Thanks for the deal on the kit ML.

What I received at my door step was a long black boom stick that works, and it works pretty darn well; I don't machine parts, nor do I assemble firearms for a living (smarter people than me do all that) I am not a gun nerd, I don't go on forums, I don't really care to spend my time talking about what if's, I don't care what looks good because some dude with a beard, cool guy shades, velcro on his pants and zippers on the arms of his jacket made a video telling me that such and such is cool and such and such ain't. My mates don't really look like that...none of us make videos either. We don't really make money doing what we do... What I do is shoot things....thats what I do. So I go out and I lay on my belly, prop up against something that won't move and typically won't let bullets go through it, hide behind things and shoot at other things. I don't care about theoretical, possible, or what if's. That is why I buy Larue products with the money that I do have because I know they work. Buy one, put it on a lower, buy a trunk load of ammo and shoot. Shoot when its hot, cold, wet, dry, windy...whatever. Keep her lubed up and have fun. I've had mine for a week and I've shot the first case of ammo I bought for it. It makes little holes on paper and goes bing when you shoot at steel. I already have a lower with a MBT on it so I tossed it on that lower and I shot the piss out of it. When I'm home I practice trigger control by dry firing since they sent me a trigger ready to do so. Buy it, shoot it, and join the damn club.

My only complaint was no rail sections with the kit. first trip to the range sub MOA groups with a variety of ammo. I will soon be ordering a 6.5CM kit.

I bought Ultimate Upper Kit after a link to the sale was posted on a forum I frequent. I ordered my 6.5 Grendel Ultimate Upper Kit on August 7th at 10:30PM; it shipped August 11th, at 5:55PM; received it today, August 15th, at 1:30PM. No complaints about the order fulfillment and shipping. I've never purchased anything from LaRue before and was impressed with the packaging of the components that made up this kit, very professional. I assembled the upper with no problems wait so ever, the lower I used was a run of the mill Alexandria Pro-Fab lower to upper fit was snug, no wobble. The MBT trigger functioned flawlessly in the lower. I took a scope off another rifle, mounted it and headed to the range. I started at 100 yards, figuring I'd be on paper, I was. Ammo used was Hornady Black 123gr ELD Match. The second three rounds I fired clover-leafed (group of the day). I adjusted and fired a five round group to confirm. Moved to 200 and fired 3 rounds at another 25 yard M4 Zero target - two of the three rounds were in the black silhouette, the third was just a little outside, the group was 1.25" and zeroed as good as I was going to get it. I spent the rest of the session banging metal targets at 200 yards. At this point I have fired a total of 40 rounds from this rifle, rounds 4-6 touched each other at 100 yards, off a bag. Color me happy. As I said this was my first purchase from LaRue, it will not be my last. Dan Lehr, Hutchinson, KS

The kit components are top quality. Especially the trigger. The smooth pull and clean break exceeded my expectations. With the inclusion of a really nice stock, buffer tube and LPK, this is an exceptional deal. The real reason for my review isn't the kit quality, however. I wanted to comment on Larue Tactical's great customer service. My kit was ordered as a 5.56 kit. The shipped barrel was actually a 6.5 grendel. Something I didn't notice until after I had loctited the gas block screws. I was able to remove all butilities one before my hex bit snapped. During this ordeal, I realized i'd prefer a grendel over 5.56. When I called Larue and explained the shipping mistake and what had happened, the rep apologized and said they would make it right with whatever caliber I chose. To ensuread a properly matched bolt, I was instructed to return the whole kit. I quickly received a new one with another set of swag (more Dillo Dust!). The shipping mistake was an opportunity to experience the customer oriented service Larue lives by. Thank you, Mark. And a big thanks to the entire Larue team.

New customer and new to this product, suggested by a big Larue fan. Finally made it to the range and VERY pleased. As another said, better rifle than shooter. Heck, anyone who could pick this gun up and place on a table with a bag could hit a target at 50-200 yards with ease, trivial recoil. The machine work is amazing on the parts. Install did not take long and there is a YouTube video to watch just to be sure and get your adjustments perfect. Mounted Magpul iron sights and placed Burris XTR II 3-15x50 on top. Will order the Larue lower for possible switch out, or will build another around that...Spikes is doing just fine for now and had to get it done before the season. Using 17round mag to start with and will get 10round mag for hunting with $$$ ammo options and extend shots hopefully reaching new personal goals. Great product, delivery, and company to work with.

First - I was tempted to give this kit 4-stars simply by virtue of the fact that I had some compatibility issues with various lower receivers. I tried several, the LaRue upper works with half of them. I ultimately decided to splurge on a billet lower to finish this out, though I will keep my fingers crossed for an LT option. As concerns the kit itself...$800 delivered for an entire rifle, minus lower receiver is one of the absolute best deals I have ever seen. I maintain a "cost conscious, quality" parts list for AR-15 components that I use myself and to advise friends and family when they ask about upgrading or putting together an AR-15. When this kit dropped, I just sent them all a link to the page instead. The whole thing is high quality and a low to middling price. I'm a huge fan of this upper/hand guard/barrel nut design - incredibly easy to assemble and effective. I would prefer to see a reference guide for washer thickness included - timing the brake took me more time than the remainder of the assembly combined, I think. MBT installation was also surprisingly easy. I've made three trips to the range and, though it is no great feat, the rifle is a better piece of equipment than I am a shooter. I'm seeing around 2470 fps with Hornady Black 123 gn ELD-M. Between 3 shot, 5 shot, 10 shot groups, different ranges, everything has been between .75 and 1.5 MOA. That's certainly not internet impressive, but it is good shooting for me. I'm confident saying this is the most accurate rifle I own, even if I'm not the most accurate shooter.

I purchased mine in 6.5 Grendel and opted to have it assembled by LaRue. Looked great when received. Minor issue was the safety selector, detente and spring were missing from the TAC. This was quickly rectified by an email to customer service. I put the upper temporarily in an Anderson rifle lower and it was actually a nice fit. Took it shooting. It is easily capable of MOA or better when I do my part. Best group of the day was .501 MOA. Functioning was 100% with several different loads. I'm not sure what lower it will end up with. I may hold out for a LaRue. I like it and recommend it.

The fit, finish and pricing is beyond explanation. The best part about this product is you still get the excellent customer service of LaRue Tactical. I have personally tested the customer service and the "if you ain't happy, we ain't happy" policy and believe me it is well worth it. Do not hesitate and make this purchase for your collection.

I ordered a 5.56 kit for a build with an Aero Precision (Gen 2) lower. It took me less than 2 hours to complete the build (this is my first AR build ever). All components fit easily except for the grip (for some reason LaRue's grip is too tight for the Aero lower - it installed fine but there is a small gap). I tested this build at the range today with an EOTech EXPS-2.0 on it - wow, the gun is pleasant to shoot and quite accurate. Without any magnification I can shoot <1" group @50 yards and ~2.5" @100 yards (sitting, with the cheap 26c/rd Federal 5.56). There is no break-in, no malfunction at all (shot 150 rounds of cheap brass ammo) The two-stage MBT trigger gives me better control on the shots (compared to the single-stage Geissele SD 3-gun trigger on my training AR) - first-stage gives enough take up and the second stage breaks like a glass - so crisp, and reset is great. Making follow up shots is a breeze just as my Geissele. In terms of overall quality, I think the kit is a steal. The hand guard is finished really well (mine is black), better than my other ARs (DDM4). All (if not, almost all) the parts are well designed/chosen. Again, I love the MBT trigger. It's priced much lower than its two-stage Geissele or Timney counterparts. I'll go with MBT for my next AR build. After finishing the build, I am tempted to get another one for 300 BLK and the 7.62 ultimate kit (wanting to shoot 6.5 Creedmoor, but my wife says no more this year ...). I'll be back for more! Thanks LaRue!

So, all the reviews I am seeing are 5-armadillos. I am giving this purchase 4. The upper is fantastic. I chose the 6.5 Grendel, and I am happy I did. This will be my first 6.5mm. I like the fit of the 2.0 Stealth, and the way the upper receiver connects to the rail. Performance is what you would expect from LT. And value is great. For under $1,000, I have a high performance upper. Two areas where LT can improve: 1) the upper receiver does not have the right design and fit and finish to mate with a LaRue lower. There is a bit of a gap in the left rear, and the lines don't match. I think LT needs a new lower for their Stealth uppers. It is like the design shops came from two different worlds. 2) I chose black, and it is an anodized finish. That is okay, but the LT lower is much more refined. Maybe it is Cerekoted. The anondizing is good, but not great. I hesitated to pick FDE, because I did not know the color code, and FDE is hard to match a lower to.

Fit and finish on my Ultimate Upper kit was out of this world. Every piece came together like I was building a rifle in the LaRue factory. The design of their barrels and gas block take away all of the hard work from installing a barrel which, in my opinion, is the most difficult part of assembling an upper receiver correctly. Slap this kit on your favorite receiver and you're ready to shoot one ragged hole!

This is an incredible deal! I would hesitate to really call it a kit as if real installation is required. All of what I consider to be the tedious installation: bolt extractor and injector, port cover etc were already installed. It literally took maybe 5-10 minutes more to assemble this upper than it did to put a .260 barrel in my tOBR. Fit and finish is perfect as I have come to expect from Larue. When this went on sale there was some grumbling about having to buy the entire kit but think about this; you can add a nice lower for $100-$200 and end up with a complete Larue rifle for right at $1000!

This is by far the highest quality rifle kit you will find anywhere, even at double the price. LaRue loves America, loves our Troops, and is unwavering in its commitment to quality. Knowing LaRue, he's making such a deal on these just to keep his folks employed with little to no profit. So, support the industry, and some American workers and buy one. You'll be happy you did. I'm pairing mine with an Aero Precision Betsy Ross 1776 Special Addition lower to make the perfect Patriot rifle. This is a serious and accurate battle rifle, of heirloom quality. Can't be beat for the $.

As always excellent.Larue does it again.great deal. 5star. Thank you for the dillo rub. My 86 year old mother loves your rub. I have tried many different rubs but she likes yours. I smoke chicken legs for 5 hrs. She says"I like that other ". When she says that she means your rub. But she doesn't understand that I can't buy it. Thanks John Geyer

High Quality Kit! Hoping to buy another in .300 soon. Only downside, I ordered FDE and got every thing in FDE except for the Pistol Grip. I can order a one for cheap enough. Now for a Stripped Lower from LaRue...but the 6.5 and soon .300 can sit on my tAR Lower for the time being. Saved $200 by getting it unassembled.
