I love these. I have always doubled up my hearing protection, even shooting outdoors with pistols only. I find that earplugs alone, or my Howard Leight Impact Sports alone are not enough for me. Unfortunately earplugs start to bother me after a couple hours and HL earmuffs make me feel like I have my head in a vice after an hour or so. I finally bought a pair of these earmuffs and I tested them today shooting pistols outdoors at a USPSA practice session. They are more comfortable than my HL, and I tried them without earplugs and I was perfectly fine. I know the noise reduction rating on these is lower than HL or foam earplugs, but to me they seem like better protection. A day at the range is a lot more comfortable now. Highly recommend. Worth the price.

The MSAs do work very well. However, they don't seem to last long and the problem is that a lot of the MSA muffs being sold have been manufactured awhile back. This is an issue because MSA's 5 year warranty is ONLY from time of manufacture and not from time of sale. I bought a pair equipped with all the bells and whistles and they lasted three years with very light use but when they failed I contacted MSA and was told the repair for just the battery compartment was going to be between $155-$245. At that price point it makes sense to either buy a new pair or switch brands.

It's hard to explain how cool these things are. Aside from the range, I find myself sitting outside listening to the birds. I listen to the grass break under my dogs feet and the sound of water. Rain is intense. You can listen to your neighbors if you want. At the indoor range, I put foamies in my ears and these over... I just turn up the volume and I can hear talking perfect but the bang is muffled. Outdoor, I use these on their own, they are well suited for a rifle stock and the big big difference that I've noticed between these and the cheaper ones is the lack of audible clipping. I can hear an entire conversation at the range uninterrupted and that's more than my buddies can say with the cheaper electronic ears. Haven't even messed with the audio input jack.

Bought MSA amplified cups to replace an old set on its last legs. Have been using Pro Ears Gold as primary amp cups for couple years. I read up on a lot of customer feedback from this one and that one before purchase. I hate battery loading under the foam earpieces.....the MSA's load batts from the side though an O ring threaded cap. The padding/cup comfort is better. They don't have screw turn knobs but have push buttons on the side with up/down volume. The frame is metal, not plastic, the head padding is woody camo and removable for washing. The sound is adjustable and louder on the top end than the others we tried. The on-paper decibel reduction rating may not be as high as some others in the $300 range but so far, between comfort, better loudness and rugged build, they are a big improvement. The Dillo field is meant to show 5 positive but remains red with a negative symbol no matter how many times I try. Just saying.

These are the best you can buy. For hunting, they give you a level of hearing that's unparalleled. For the range, wear in the ear (Surefire highly recommended here) for the level of protection you need sending innumerable rounds downrange. Just turn up the volume and you can hear your fellow shooters speak, if they're worth listening to... Bought one set and soon invested in two more for my sons. Like a lot of what LaRue suggests, these are the best.

Third pair of electronic ear pro from different manufactures and by far the most comfortable of the bunch. Easy to turn on/off and adjust the volume. I wear a large hat and these fit great and have a slim profile. I shoot at an outside range with sheet metal overheads and the electronics in the MSAs seem to really cut out the back blast from the overhead. Very impressed with MSA Supreme Pro-X!!

Awesome ear protection. You can hear conversations crystal clear from a distance and they shut out all the loud noise. MSA is battlefield proven. La Rue was fast with the transaction and shipment. Awesome gifts!!
